Consequences of Channel Aware Scripting and Switch-Mode Surveys

Typically an interview is run in a single channel only. However, since NIPO Fieldwork System supports switching from NIPO CATI to NIPO CAWI, a single interview may be completed using two channels. This means that the filtering in a single interview may have been subject to two different routings, one based on NIPO CATI and one based on NIPO CAWI. As a consequence, you may see unexpected results: in a single interview it is possible for a respondent to have answered both CATI-only and CAWI-only questions.

The exception to this are questions and script in the *INIT block. The *INIT block is always executed when a questionnaire is started or resumed. This means that any collected data in an *INIT block is always subject to the channel that the questionnaire was completed in. The *INIT block can also be used to initialize variables according to channel, if required.
