Storing data in Unicode

By default the data is stored in plain ASCII. When Unicode data files are needed for separate surveys, this can be configured in the file survey configuration file:

[Config]
UnicodeData=Y

If a datafile is already present, this setting is ignored: files are stored in the format the file was originally created in.

When *ALPHA is used in a questionnaire and the respondent uses a Unicode language (i.e. a Unicode character set is used), the U-file must be written in Unicode.

When *OPEN is used in a questionnaire and the respondent uses a Unicode language (i.e. a Unicode character set is used), the O-file must be written in Unicode.
