Setting up the NIPO CATI Client

The NIPO CATI Client contains several modules integrated into a single application:

  • The NIPO CATI Client, used for interviewing. This is the most important task of the application.
  • The Interviewer Instruction station, which behaves like the interviewing module above except that no sample data is used and no survey data is stored. This is used to make interviewers acquainted with a survey before they enter fieldwork.
  • The Watch station, allowing a stand-alone installation that can follow the interviewer actions that take place on another workstation. This module is used for quality control purposes.
  • The Data Entry station, allowing quick data entry of PAPI interviews using a NIPO ODIN script, optionally bypassing routing.
  • The Data Entry Double Punch station, allowing revising a PAPI interview that was previously entered using Data Entry or to review a regular CATI interview.

The installers provided with the release can set up workstations with either a NIPO CATI Client, an Interviewer Instruction station or a Watch station. The Data Entry and Data Entry Double Punch modules can be added by creating additional shortcuts to the same application, using slightly different startup parameters.

The installer can be used in two ways:

  • You can either set up a single installation of the NIPO CATI Client, Interviewer Instruction station or the Watch station. This is typically useful to set up an instruction station or a watch station, of which there will no be many workstations.
  • You can set up a multi-installer with a specific default configuration that can be run on all required workstations. The created multi-installer runs without requiring user interference during installation. This is ideal to set up an entire call center using Windows Advertised Programs.

The selection for single installation versus building a multi-installer is one of the first steps. The installer furthermore allows you to set a connection, installation location and some startup options for the NIPO CATI Client.

Note:
The installer provides the choice for the installation of a Unicode version versus the non-Unicode version. The non-Unicode version is provided for backward compatibility purposes only but is no longer supported. It is recommended to select the Unicode version.

About the multi-installer

The multi-installer builds an installation package with the selected options preset. There is a multitude of additional configuration options that you might want to standardize for a CATI center installation that is not provided in the installer. To add a customized configuration to the multi-installer, open the folder where the multi-installer was saved and edit the configuration file OdQesSetup.ini.

Sections that start with Transfer:<section name> contain sections and options that will be set in the configuration on the target machine. Here you can insert further configuration and translation settings of the NIPO CATI Client. For a full list of configuration options, see NIPOSYS.INI configuration settings.
