NIPO Fieldwork System Version 1.14
Setting up a Listed Authentication Key
Listed authentication keys are stored in the StationKeys table. This table is not accessible from within the NIPO FMS and must be edited directly using a database management application (such as Microsoft SQL Management Studio). The authentication keys may be set up to be used by a single workstation or by multiple workstations.
The following fields may be set for NIPO CATI Client workstations:
StationKey sets a secure key with which a workstation may connect. You may create and copy fields using the Create Key button in the NIPO FMS, Interviewers, Details tab.StationName sets or gets the workstation network name that is allowed to use the key. Set to :ANY when the key may be used by multiple workstations.RemoteTelnr sets the telephone number by which a dialer may reach the connecting workstation. This cannot be used in combination with :ANY in StationName .
Any connecting workstation that is not part of the local network has their StationKey checked against this table. If the incoming connection does not use a station key, the NIPO CATI / Web Master uses Default as the station key. Make sure to define Default as a station key using a non-existent workstation name (for example, :NONE ), otherwise workstations without station key are allowed to start any survey.
Upon first connection of a workstation, the field StationName stores the workstation name on which the StationKey was first used if the field was left empty. Subsequent connections require that this station matches the station used during the first connection, to prevent reusing keys on other workstations. For added security, you can also preset this field with a value if you know the workstation name in advance.
Note: The NIPO CATI / Web Master considers a connection 'remote' if the first two octets of the incoming IP address are not the same as the first two octets of the IP address of the NIPO CATI / Web Master.
