Today, Monday February 5th we have released a new version of the Nfield CAPI for Android app. Thursday February 8th we will release an update of Nfield.
Nfield CAPI for Android update
The new version of the Nfield CAPI app (v1.89.002) addresses an issue which can occur in surveys that contain large nested repeats or subroutines. We have reviewed how the Nfield CAPI app processes scripts, resulting in faster load times for these constructs.
Creating complex questionnaires is one of the strong points of Nfield. Structures like large or heavily nested *REPEAT and *SUBROUTINE commands do require a corresponding computational load however. Performance of your surveys depends for a large part on your hardware (the Android devices). You can get an indication of how the script will perform by using the preview function in the Nfield Manager or the Nfield Online Manager. When the preview is consistently slower in specific sections of your script, we recommend that you review that part of your survey's code. Final testing of your script should always be performed on devices used in field.
Nfield update
On Thursday we will release a new version of Nfield which is mainly focused on hardening and performance. We also improved survey validation.
ODIN scripts that are uploaded to the Nfield Manager and Nfield Online Manager are now validated the moment you upload them, and any exceptions that are found will be displayed immediately.
During the update
While this update should not influence your work or the availability of your Nfield domain, it could be that page load times in Nfield Manager or Online Manager are temporarily higher or that you are signed out and need to re-enter your Nfield credentials.
As always, please share this information with all relevant people in your organization.
Kind regards,
