Nfield update
26 September 2023
On Tuesday, 26 September, we will release a new version of Nfield. This update includes the new HTTP Request configuration in Nfield Manager, upgrades to the survey Blueprints feature, and several smaller improvements.
HTTP Request configuration
In the Nfield Manager, we have included a new UI (User Interface) for configuring the HTTP Request method. Previously, this was only possible via the Nfield Public API. Now, you can configure the same in the Nfield Manager.

Together with the release of this configuration feature in Nfield Manager, we make the *REQUEST command in Odin questionnaire scripts publicly available. The *REQUEST command is an extension to the *GETDATA command, allowing users to do more than only HTTP GET requests from (Online) interviews.

With this new feature, you can configure the API requests in the Nfield Manager, validate your end point configurations by testing them, and do a few other tasks that REST API supports.

For more information on this topic, you can also read the new section 6.57 in the Nfield Reference manual.

Survey Blueprints
We have added a "Media files" configuration to Blueprints, which allows you to copy media files to a blueprint survey.

You may upload new Media files or copy Media files from an existing survey to survey blueprints.

Nfield CAPI minimum app version from 1 October 2023
The current minimum version of the Nfield CAPI app that can be used for fieldwork is 2.13. From 1 October onwards the minimum version will be 2.16.1. Interviewing devices that are running a version of the app that is lower than 2.16.1 will no longer be able to synchronize with Nfield from 1 October 2023.

As a Domain Administrator it is important to share this news within your organization so it gets the attention of the people that should act. If you are working with the older Nfield CAPI app versions that will stop being supported, now is the time to ensure business continuity by keeping your CAPI devices updated with at least the required minimum app version (and preferably upgrading them to the latest CAPI app version).
Reminder about supported Android versions
The minimum supported version of Android for Nfield CAPI app is Android 9. This is in line with the Nfield CAPI app strategy mentioned on our website.

If you encounter a problem with your device, for instance, an issue with performance, we will first ask you to upgrade to the latest supported Android version (Android 9 as a minimum).

As a general recommendation we advise you to update to the latest Android version on your device(s) as soon as you can.
Miscellaneous
We have introduced a new Public API endpoint to retrieve survey sample fields. This endpoint allows you to check which sample fields were used in your survey. As an example:

GET: v1/Surveys/{Surveyid}/customcolumns

More information can be found on the Nfield API Help Page for your region (for example, for EU it is https://api.nfieldmr.com/help).
